PELAGIC Trip Report III - September 21, 1996 Aboard the Chip XI
Report Transcribed from 1997 Texas Deepwater Pelagic Trips Newsletter

The September trip was noteworthy for finding a “common” type tern that could have
possibly been an Arctic. But the bird everyone will remember, as we neared shore,
was an immature Red-billed Tropicbird that flew directly over the boat from a nearby rig.
Dwight’s video, if accepted by the Texas Bird Records Committee, will be only the third
Texas record.
Species Seen:
Magnificent Frigatebird – 3
Red-billed Tropicbird – 1
Common Tern – 1
